Ryan McVean takes a look at the fourth instalment of this UK Smash Bros event which has more than 400 confirmed attendees.

With worldwide talent coming to the UK and some of biggest names in the UK Smash scene, the upcoming Heir 4 tournament is looking better than ever.

It’s shaping up to be one of the biggest European events for the game.

Hosted by Team Heir, the event will take place in Nottingham from August 17th to 21st 2017. It features singles and double events for Super Smash Bros. Melee, and there’s still a few days left to register.

Some of the world’s best players will be in attendance, including two-time EVO champion Armada (ranked first in the world), the highest ranked player from the UK Professor Pro (ranked fourth in Europe) and many other top players.

Heir is not only about the competitive events, it also features a crew battle featuring countries from the world over. Canada, Sweden and of course the UK will face each other.

Heir 4 is running a new bracket system which has been praised for allowing more players to enjoy more competitive games. With each player guaranteed at least 14 games, everyone is assured a fair event where they can face players of equal skill.

Other Melee events in the UK

UK Smash Bros expert Ross Mitchell gives us the lowdown.

New Wave (July 29th)

This is an arcadian hosted in London by Okameed, following the success of the previous/first arcadian ‘Best of the Rest’ which took place in Southampton and maxed out the venue size of 118.

New Wave is also looking to be a very interesting event with many competitors in attendance who could realistically win the tournament – this is an issue with the Melee scene as there’s a gap in skill level when it comes to the top three compared to everyone else, whereas below the top 20, upsets could come from anywhere.

Smashbox 4 (August 12th)

This is Coventry’s own Melee tournament with more than 100 places available for entrants in the midlands. Its closeness to Heir will likely make it a hotspot for those looking for good practice.

Other upcoming events around the world:

  • Get On My Level (GOML) (July 28th-30th)
  • Super Smash Con (previous attendance 2,224, August 10th-13th)
  • Shine 2017 (August 25th-27th August)
